We provide a high quality and professional welfare service to festivals & events.

This includes:

1.  General & Festival Information
2.  Health Promotion Information - including drugs/alcohol and safer sex awareness - and support
3.  Befriending & emotional and/or practical support for those in need
4.  Support for people in distress
5.  Shelter
6.  Care of lost children
7.  Liaison with on & off site services

We aim to be acceptable to and accessible by all members of the public requiring assistance regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, physical or mental ability, class, culture, sexuality, parent status or spiritual beliefs.

The welfare service will never be used to promote party political or religious agenda.

Who's in the Team?

RWP is staffed entirely by volunteers who are chosen for their personal festival experience - so they are friendly and approachable and understand the needs of festival goers - also for their professional training and experience.

Volunteers come from professions such as youth & community workers, general & psychiatric nurses,  counsellors, substance misuse workers and social workers.

The RWP welfare team are friendly, appropriately trained and experienced people.

Why have a welfare service at festivals and other events?

The provision of a welfare service at festivals and similar events is advised by the Health and Safety Executive in the 'The Event Safety Guide' sometimes referred to as the 'pop code'.

21:770 (p.135)

'Providing information and welfare services at an event not only contributes to the safety and wellbeing of the audience but they also act as an early-warning system to detect any potential breakdown of service or facilties on site.  The range and level of information and welfare services needed at any event will be determined by the risk assessment.'

Reading Welfare Point are professional and experienced people, who will meet the needs of any festival or event.

We also provided the welfare service to Homelands Festival in Winchester since 2003 and at Hi:Fi South 2006 and were at the launch of a new event, Latitude.  We will be back there in 2007.
